How my team ended as Semi-Finalists in DST & Texas Instruments Inc. India Innovation Challenge Design Contest 2016

Well if you are an electronics engineering student studying in India this banner will seem very familiar to you. And as for students of the rest  of the world the name 'TI Innovation Challenge' is enough to ring a bell.
This competition is mainly aimed to bring about the inner innovator in you.What you have learned in theories,this competition mainly gives you a platform to showcase your theories into some practical application.Applications that tend to bring a change in this world for better.
Now coming to the main thing how to win this competition?
Well I am not a winner but I can at least tell you how to finish up as Semi-Finalists and rest you can figure out on your own I guess.


  • Make a Great Team
Here by telling 'Great' I don't mean  that your team needs to have extraordinary studious students but what I mean is that your team should have guys in the following fashion:

  1. A guy having all the necessary hardware knowledge i.e mainly designing circuits and models
  2. A guy who should be very confident in public speaking and can give efficient presentations and lastly who has great convincing skills.Try to pick someone from your college's debate club
  3. Try to take up a guy who is very comfortable with managing servers and making mobile applications...only if your idea needs them.Like if you are working on IoT projects this guy will be very helpful.
  4. A guy who has marketing concepts mainly someone who must know the required channels to sell a product,how to make the product stand-out in the market.Try to find out someone who has family business.This guy is very important.
  5. Lastly a guy who should be a good designer..because 'Looks matter' for your prototype.For this try to take up a girl in your team...because girls have good designing skills in general.

  • Think of a Feasible idea                                         
Try to come up with an idea that is feasible and can be practically recognised.The idea should mainly solve a problem(local or global).It's not something that you have to come up with excellent new ideas...if you can its great but if can't think of anything new,try to modify the existing solutions such that it's somewhat better ...say, you increased the battery life,or added new features etc.So basically your motive should be to build something that will help others.

  • Follow the Guidelines
I guess this requires no need for elaborate explaining.Basically just try to follow each and every point ,and focus on all the required parameters in the writeup.
